HERAKUT at Hoults Yard

Thursday night saw the launch of onethirty3's latest exhibition, featuring the artwork of German duo Herakut. onethirty3 is an Artists Installation Space within Hoult's yard, hosting artists to create site-specific art installations.

Herakut

Herakut is the combined name of Hera and Akut. The partners work together on the paintings, using paints and spray to make figurative works of bold colour with photoreal elements.

It was a great night in Hoults Yard, Newcastle's most exciting hub for creative businesses. The yard contains over 50 business' including: artists, photographers, software developers, fashion designers, film editors, TV producers and more.

The work by Herakut covered the walls of onethirty3's space. The room was filled with local art lovers all eager to see the work and mingle with likeminded creatives.

The exhibition space itself is connected to resident artist 'Hush's studio, his work is quickly gaining recognition and his prints are rising in popularity and price. Work of his can be found in the alcoves of the adjoining room.

Hush

The yard also houses Unit-44, which doubles as a base for a design and photography team and Gallery space for international artists. Unit-44 host the ongoing White Walls project, which has transformed the former industrial yard, into a bright and engaging display of the best of today's current and emerging underground artists.

ZBrush 4 creations

Scanning through gallery at ZBrush Central is a regular pleasure and over the years I have been constantly inspired, and often awe struck at the creations. Since the release of the ZBrush 4 The work which has appeared has become insanely good. With the latest release the ability to construct highly complex hard surfaced models (such as the bike and tank images below), mixed with soft and delicate organic work is possible. ZBrush has finally become THE tool for the modern digital artist.

I thought I'd share some of the recent additions to the site, some images are from ZBrush 3.5 and rendered in dedicated software (such as Pixar's Renderman) but all the work is constructed and sculpted in ZBrush. Enjoy:

Nope not a photo - but based on the classic, haunting portrait by Steve McCurry.

Be sure to check out the two videos on how this was constructed.

Great Artists in the World of Comics - Alberto Breccia

Great Artists in the World of Comics:Alberto Breccia

I found this old interview on Argentinian artist Alberto Breccia. The quality is not great but the insight into this true artist is well worth the time.

"One of the most unsettling of comics artists, Argentina's Alberto Breccia is also one of the genuine veterans, with fifty years' experience of challenging the conventions in favor of his own demanding artistic path." (28 min) From http://www.rolandcollection.com/films/?prm=a2724-b2726-c2755-d3-e0

A good translated interview can be found here:

Cameron Stewart's Sin Titulo

I was made aware of Cameron Stewart's 'Sin Titulo' web comic in the recently announced Eisner award results (The Oscars of the Comic Book World).
The story is fantastic, with twists and turns in many unexpected directions. Each weekly episode we follow the story of Alex MacCay as he first stumbles upon a mysterious photograph and then is systematically dragged into a harrowing chain of events, nightmarish encounters and surreal occurrences.
Every, single-page plot development leaves you desperate for more, with masterfully handled cliff hangers and fascinating character driven advancments in the narrative. Check it out - the Eisner is well deserved: http://sintitulo.txcomics.com/
Also a bonus video of Cameron's working method:
