When the sculpt is complete and moulded, a cast is cleaned up readied for mass production. Any Logos or Copyright icons are added, and any attachments and Plug in parts are made workable. What we end up with is the 'Master' or 'Grey'. The grey is applied to give the model an even tone so shadow and highlight are even, making the surface easier to visually read.
